Orpheus The only word to describe the noise Orpheus made when Emiline called Toast cute was 'giggle.' Personally, that's what he thought: three heads, a vicious temper, dribbling saliva on everything and a tendency to produce gouts of flame without any warning made the chimera absolutely adorable in Orpheus's eyes, and he did not understand why other people didn't see it that way too! But then, he was never really put off when his dead things got up and wandered gleefully away, so perhaps his entire judgement system was a touch.... skewed. "I am firmly of that opinion." He replied cheerfully, "And I promise he shall not set your tail on fire." That was an occasional problem; he'd give the chimera a Talking To before she came and visited.
"Yes, perhaps that might work." Orpheus said thoughtfully-- if he asked Polter nicely then perhaps the stallion would permit him a mare or two as a visitor without.. er, trying to convince them to stick around as part of the herd. And perhaps by then she would have a different herd of allegiance, and there would be some viel of obscure Politics that would grant her some sort of protection. Who knew. Regardless, the promise of friendly company-- much less company interested in learning things was something to look forward to.
Her final question brought him back to reality with a jolt-- as Orpheus was wont to do, eh'd allowed the joy of conversation to carry him away, and had quite forgotten why he was here at all. "err." he answered, looking puzzled. "Well, certainly, there was a reason, but I've quite forgotten it now." he didn't sound upset about this-- on the contrary, he sounded rather cheerful.

Emiline gigled when Orphesus promised that Toast would not torch her tail. "Thank you," she said. "I would be happy to come for a visit knowing that I won't be singed while I am there."
She had to laugh good naturedly when he admitted that he had forgotten his purpose for coming there. "I suppose it doesn't really matter now," she said. "We both found each other here, so our visit to this place has been productive." She gave the stallion a big smile. She was very pleased to have met him.
"So, is there anything magical around here that you can show me?" She looked at him with large, eager eyes.

Orpheus Orpheus often found his visits to Sacramento were successful from the perspective of a magic user, but today, the enjoyment came from a companion source; very convenient for him. "Indeed," he agreed cheerfully; this place was full of surprises, and today the surprises came in the form of a very sweet mare he'd just met.
"Something magic to show you..." he answered thoughtfully, looking around. The trouble was that most magic was invisible to the naked eye-- well, aside from things like pyromancy and animating shadows, of course, but that was different. "Well, if you ever find a ring or spiral of stone here, the magic is usually strong around those-- but that's not particularly interesting to look at." She probably wanted a more theatrical show of some effect.
One thing he'd noticed about being a necromancer, though, was that it seemed to grant a sort of dead-sense. Lifting his nose to the air, he could pick out the ripe smell of something small, rotting a way's away. "There's nothing around here that I could show you, but if we go a small ways, perhaps we might find something which I can animate."
He didn't mind giving demonstrations- not at all.

Emiline simply enjoyed learning all that she could. It did not really matter what it was or in what manner it appeared. She simply loved making discoveries. And she was very pleased to have met this interesting and friendly stallion.
As Orpheus appeared willing to display his abilities, she nodded. "I don't mind traveling a little piece," she said, smiling at the stallion. "Especially when the company is so grand." And it was so very true. It had been a while since she had met anyone so engaging.
She slid over to stand at his side. "Lead the way," she said, nodding her head. "I am curious to see what it is that you do."

Orpheus "Excellent." Orpheus replied, and moved down the path at a comfortable amble, intend on keeping Emiline further company. "Particularly since I smell something I think I can rise not too far off!"
Indeed, it was only a small ways down the path, and around a stone, when the smell he'd found proved to be true: it didn't stink too badly, because it was freshly dead. Just a small bird, which had met some unfortunate fate. No matter, it would fly again-- it's wings were in tact enough. "Here we go." he said, lowering his nose to it. It took a second of concentration and a small breath, and the bird shuddered once, got to it's feet, and then strut around in a circle, giving it's wings an experimental shake.
Orpheus watched this curiously, and said, "It's not as showy as firesummoning, but it's something."

Emiline followed Orpheus to where a small bird lay dead. With great interest, she watched him lower his nose to it. And then, she watched as the little bird stood and moved about. It walked in a circle and spread it's weaks.
"It's fascinating," Emiline breathed. She looked from the bird to the stallion. "Will the bird remain reanimated ndefinitely, or simply while it is around you?"
Even though she knew the bird was dead, here it was moving about, thanks to Orpheus. Though it did seem odd that something dead should still be able to move, she could not supress her sense of wonder either. "How did you find out that you could do this? Did someone teach you?"

Orpheus "It depends-" he started to answer, and then thought better of finishing the statement as he was intending to; it wouldn't really do for him to go informing any stranger that he used such Risen to spy for the monarch of Zyth. "But usually, it's for however long I maintain the life in them. It's harder the further away I am." There, that answer was safer-- betrayed little of what he used them for, and also remained truthful. "I didn't put all that much into this one; he'll probably go back to being dead once he gets a significant distance from me."
The bird, oblivious to the implications of this statement, took to the air and flew off into the distance-- albeit with some trouble. It's wings may have been in tact, but stiffness from it's death lingered.
The thought of who taught him had him looking minorly puzzled. "No.. not really. Where I come from, magic is somewhat rare." he didn't mention that only certain kinds of magic were appreciated there, and others were ousted on pain of death. "And not many horses like necromancy, anyway. They think it's against the natural order of things." He snorted, and shook his head. "Mostly, I've taught myself."

Emiline listened to Orpheus as she watched the bird fly away. It was obvious his wings were stilff, but at first glance one would not suspect the little creature was actuall dead. She though rather sadly that a short distance away the life would flee from its little body once again. It was sad to think about.
Instead, she turned to face the stallion as he explained some of his magical background. "I can understand that," she said. "I have met a few others with at least an appreciation of things magical, though none as talented as you. I have also encountered those who were not fond of its existence at all."
She shrugged and looked about the forest. "I am fascinated that magic exists around us and there are those gifted to be able to harness it." She sighed. "I wish I were able to do something that could be of use to someone."

Orpheus Orpheus nodded, and his thoughts were solemn: for all that it was sad that she could not use magic, it was probably a blessing in disguise when she had run across those who were more negatively inclined towards magic. His thoughts turned to magical talent shortly thereafter, though-- it was tragic that anyone who would want to learn be rendered unable. "Perhaps it's this land." he said, partially to himself. Then, shaking himself slightly and remembering it was rude rto have quiet conversations in front of people, he said more clearly: "I've noticed that many develop magical skill upon coming to these places around here; perhaps it's the land that does it. You might discover some latent skill; who knows." He sounded cheerful about this prospect.

Emiline looked cheeful when Orpheus mentioned that the place could provide magical powers. "I doubt I have any hidden abilities," she said with a little shrug. "But you never can tell."
"If I do develop any abilities, you will have to study me. Perhaps together we can make some huge discovery. She gave him a thoughful look at that idea. She was finding herself more drawn to this stallion that she had previously realized.

Orpheus The second that Emiline mentioned combining magic of different types, Orpheus' eyes lit up at the possibilities. "I hope you do develop such skills! I have heard about the things that can be done via combining magic! The things which can be created!" He had to pause for a moment and add, "I'm not sure how much use necromancy would have in that context, but I'm sure it's something."
He had to shake himself, almost, to be free of the excitement. Smiling widely, he bobbed his head to Emiline. "I must return to the waterfall-- but it was nice to meet you! Come and visit me there anytime. Perhaps we will discover a way to teach you magic; I always find it very inspiring there."
OOC| This seemed like a good thread-ending point, so Orphy is wandering away-- but we can make another thread.
