Zera trotted briskly, a sweet smile across her mug, Zephara straddled across her shoulders. The young cockatrice burped loudly and sent her into a fit of giggles. His soft beak crinkled into a grin and he opened his softly smouldering red eyes. Zera taught him to keep his eyes shut when around other horses, and taught him not to touch or breath on them, for fear of hurting them. If he did any of these things then he may, as his powers are not at full strength, badly burn others, or otherwise injure them. With Zera he had a special bond, that dulled his powers. She was his mother of sorts! Zera stopped smoothly, and raised her head to the wind. This place smelled of death, but she was not alarmed! " Hullo?" she called out, and grinned sweetly.

Orpheus It hadn't taken long for Orphus to establish a routine, once he'd come to terms with the waterfall's hidden boneyard belonging to him, to share with the three-headed monstrosity he'd picked up from Verity. That routine mostly consisted of sequestering himself inside, pouring over whatever interesting item had his attention at that particular moment, while Toast-- the chimera-- took naps in the sun outside.
As such, when Zera and her companion approached, Toast was comfortably resting atop the waterfall on the cliff, snoring in the sunlight. He did not hear the mare's approach (and neither did Orpheus, since he was inside) until Zera called out a tentative greeting: Hello?
That got Toast up. He started awake, yelped and fell sideways, only managing to twist himself (thanks to the feline parts of him) to land on his feet on the rocks which made up the waterfall's cliffside. Mid-fall, he sharted shrieking, and the shrieks turned from fear to challenge once he'd caught himself and jumped the rest of the way down.
He didn't run at Zera Maria-- just stood outside the waterfall's entrance, making a loud racket: the prototypical guarddoglion-goat-snake.
It was only a few moments more before Orpheus made his way out of the waterfall himself. "Toast! What are you going on about- oh." The mare caught his eye and made him feel a sudden surge of selfconsiousness-- he'd just been in his boneyard and smelled of dead things and was in no state to receive visitors!
But there were visitors here, and he couldn't rightly tell them to wait. "Toast shush." he said, stiffening himself to prance out to meet the mare. "Hello. Sorry about Toast, he takes his guard duties very seriously." The stallion gave a charming smile, and (remembering that, as watchman, he really ought to be keeping an eye on strangers in the land) added, "What business brings you to the waterfall of Zyth?" He could totally do his job well, yep.
Toast, meanwhile, sat back on his haunches, watching the two strangers as if he didn't quite know what to make of them.

Zera saw the small creature and her immediate reaction was one of delight and adoration. Zeph would have a friend! If she managed to find them a home in this place, that is. Shortly the watchman appeared, rather not what she'd expected, he being a rather slim build, but she was pleasantly surprised. He smelled vaguely of decay, but you know, everyone has their quirks! " Oh don't worry, Zephara's the same, except he only has me to guard, not a whole land!" she looked over to Toast " He's adorable!" Zephara flapped about the two horses heads, cawing raucously, and Zera shushed him sheepishly. Then the question. This was the test. She tensed. " My name is Zera Maria, I am four years old, I am a loyal follower of the king Poltergeist and I have no ties outside of this kingdom." she said mechanically before adding in a small voice " I need a home."

Orpheus Orpheus generally considered it promising when people automatically weren't afraid of Toast, especially when Toast came out breathing fire and flailing and being a general guard-beast. Perhaps he shouldn't've been surprised-- especially when her own mythical creature took to the air. How fascinating. It put a smile on his lips, somewhat, and he nodded in understanding. "What manner of creature is your Zephara?" His tone was one of good-natured curiosity.
Toast snorted at being called adorable, but was more concerned with the Cockatrice then with making any proper response. The chimera had no idea what to make of the flying, squawking beast, and so he trotted out to where Zephara was flying, and tried to get a better look, squinting up.
Orpheus only watched him as long as it took to make sure the chimera wasn't doing any harm to their impromptu guest- he had important, official watchman-y things to do, what with the introductions and all that. He looked at Zera curiously. He couldn't miss the implications in her statement, that she had no home. It left him... torn. "I am Orpheus, and it was Poltergeist who installed me here." he said, his tone tentative, "Well met."
He paused, somewhat uncomfortable, as he glanced behind him. "Perhaps.." Oh, what to do. Ordinarily, he was less interested in taking ordinary horses in to his boneyard-- he had nobody in his herd quite yet, but he didn't imagine that the boneyard was a comfortable place for many, and further, he really only wanted those who were useful to himself or poltergeist-- researchers, spies, soldiers. This female didn't look like any of those.
But then, she was a beautiful mare, and beautiful horses of all kind had an automatic warm spot in his heart. He stepped closer to her, trying to look worthy of the title Poltergeist had bestowed on him, of leading this land. It was not something which came naturally to him. "Perhaps the waterfall and it's caverns might suit your fancy, if you're looking for a home?"

" Zephy is a Cockatrice. Other horses aren't usually so amiable about him, the reputation of his kind puts them off!" she smiled and Zeph landed rather awkwardly next to her, investigating the smells of the place. " There doesn't happen to be any toads, or roosters around here, does there? Cocks are supposedly the only way to kill a cockatrice. That and showing it its own reflection. He likes toads though, don't you Zephy?" the creature crinkled its beak into a grin. His parents were supposedly toads, according to Verity. Zera audibly squealed when Orpheus suggested that they make their home here. " Thank you so very much! I believe I shall love it here!" she grinned until the corners of her mouth began to hurt, at which point she stopped!

Orpheus "Huh." he answered, observing the cockatrice curiously; he had heard of those mythical beasts, but he'd never expected to meet one. Of course, he'd never expected to meet a chimera either, and now one guarded his doors-- so all and all, it could be stranger. "Well, so long as he doesn't petrify everything, I see no problem with him."
Toast huffed at this; he had similar restrictions on breathing fire. Indeed, people tended to meet toast with a similar sort of enthusiasm as he imagined they greeted the cockatrice with: threatening mythical animals were just so misunderstood.
"We haven't got any roosters, no, but I think there probably are toads. Or perhaps it's frogs. Does it make much of a difference?" he nudged the water of the waterfall's basin curiously, and was met by a small explosion of tadpoles. Frog-like creatures were pretty standard indigenous lake fauna.
Orpheus returned her own smile with a slightly less wide one, more nervous, apparently, then she was. "You are very welcome."
