It was a hot day. More importantly, it was day, and Hennory was out in it. His pale, albino skin was an angry color, red and obviously flaking from sunburn. He'd been outed from his position on the outskirts by a band of particularly heinous wild animals, something he'd have been able to take on had it been only one or two.. but a whole flock? He'd high tailed it out of there, not realizing just how little cover he'd have as he traversed the large open field. The sparse shade was not enough to sway him to rest under it; he needed water, and fast. His strange, almost forked tongue lolled out of his mouth, breathing heavily out of his flared nostrils as he stumbled onward. He smelled water, fresh and inviting over the horizon, and he moved towards it as if it were the only thing keeping him upright. In fact, it probably was. When he finally saw it over the horizon, somehow he found it within his power to gallop the rest of the way, his trembling legs giving way at the very last moment as he quite literally fell into the water. So cool, so soothing.. his burning skin felt better almost immediately. But even though he was in water, he knew the sun was still upon him, burning him even as he lay in the cooling balm that was the freshwater ocean. With his last strength he rolled to the bank, churning up the mud beneath him in an attempt to apply some sort of sunscreen on his irritated flesh. OOC INFO: Sorry that this post is a little 'meh', First post is always hardest, I feel. Name: Hennory Gender: Male Bio: Hennory's BioRank Wanted: Civilia. Anything above that I'd rather have happen organically after some rp, and he'd dare not try to get a position any higher than just joining with good standing upon just entering the herd. Why should you get it?: He wishes to have the protection of a herd, and be within the most basic of ranks. As for why he should get it.. it's good to have herd members?

Kalipso Borealis

The blistering summer day was far too uncomfortable for wandering outside of the cooling surf. So, the Lady of the land was happily laying in her large underwater cave munching on a bit of seaweed she'd gathered from the sea floor. All in all it had been a good day for her, not very productive, but she was happy with taking a break to keep cool and feed herself. However she was realizing very quickly that her lungs would need air very soon. Her particular species of kelpie didn't have the wonderful gill adaption that other kelpies did, unfortunately.
So when she finished chewing her last bit of seaweed she swam out of her cave and headed up to the surface near the shore. Her head briefly poked out of the water, that was when she saw a shape on the shore. She went underwater to swim closer before poking her head out again when she was nearer. The creature --that she could now see was a kelpie resembling Scarlettae-- was churning up water and mud, he was making a fearful mess of the normally clear water. Lavender eyes blinked at the spectacle as she continued to watch slowing making out the red skin of the kelpie underneath the mud. He seemed to literally be blistering in sunlight, the poor thing, he must be particularly unadapted to the direct sunlight.
"Excuse me, would you like to come into the water? It is much cooler in here."
She wondered if this stallion had intentionally come to her land or if he was a chance wanderer like her previous member had been. Either way it could prove a good chance to gain a new herd-mate.

He blinked hazily, half covered in mud and a touch heat-addled. At first, he thought what he was seeing in front of him wasn't actually there at all, but it was talking to him, beckoning into the water. That would have seemed ironically ominous to him, considering one of the ways he himself brought his prey down was to drag it underwater and drown it.
"Isn't the heat that's the issue. It's the sunlight." He watched the aquatic equine with a level gaze. "I require shade, and access to air. Unlike some… I don't have gills." He examined her further, noting her lack of that particular trait as well.
His legs gave a little tremble when he righted himself, knee deep in muddy water and caked in the murky substance. At night, he was a ghostly powerful terror. Daytime.. well, it had a way of unravelling him. He was no threat and knew it, and it showed in the way his head hung low and his ears drooped. "My… apologies if I am intruding. I was in need of water and protection."

No gills? She hadn't seen a kelpie without any gills since she'd been back at home. Then again, she hadn't seen very many kelpies since leaving so that was probably why. Either way it made her study the stallion in front of her more closely. "Well, the water can certainly keep you sheltered from the sun but as for air I am afraid that you will have to adopt my habit. Which is coming up for air when you need it."
She hoped it wouldn't be a reason for him to turn around and seek shelter elsewhere though at the moment he appeared unable to travel very far. The poor kelpie stood in the muddy-water but he appeared miserable. Drooping ears, lowered head, he was the epitome of misery. Her heart turned in sympathy for the poor creature... "No need to apologize. You can use my land for 'shelter and protection' for as long as you like, you can even call this place home if you so wish." It was known that you could catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so the lavender-eyed kelpie was putting this to work. Her trilling voice was welcoming and friendly as she watched the sunburned stallion from her position in the water. "Feel free to come below the surface if you would like. Perhaps we can talk further about how you came to be here..." And whether you would like to stay. The last part she added silently in her mind as she took a breath and dove down into the water. The sun had been making her head uncomfortably hot even for the brief amount of time she'd been above the water. Hopefully her words would send the male towards her and not moving away.

That was tough love if he'd ever heard it. he corner of his mouth upturned into a small smirk, but he allowed her to keep talking. It wasn't as if he was in a place to contradict her at this point since he was far too tired to do so.
A single ear swiveled in her direction at the invitation to live in these lands. It sounded as if she was the boss of this area… that seemed strange to him. He'd never seen someone in a position of power that wasn't fierce and more likely to gut you than talk to you… then again his last herd was a very violent, uninviting one. The kelpie seemed confused when he finally glanced her way, trying to gauge her intentions but she was already quite tired of waiting for him to speak up; she had already turned tail and left it up to him as to whether he'd follow her or not.
The stallion huffed out a long breath, staring at the water where she'd submerged. He was no stranger to diving, though he much preferred coasting on the surface with only the top of his head above to scout for prey, but one couldn't really be choosy it seemed when they were being entertained by the lady of the lake. Fine, he'd follow. Part of his mind worried that he'd be brutally attacked beneath the water as an outsider, but he shook that paranoia away. This water horse was not like those of his old herd.
With a large intake of breath, he filled his lungs with air to bring the oxygen into his bloodstream, and heaved the carbon dioxide rich exhale out before effectively collapsing his lungs and sealing his nostrils for the dive. The very action of the mud coming off of his hide was painful, but he stoutly ignored it as he swam deeper and deeper into the water. The further under he went, the less the sun would hurt him, after all. It was.. impressive. A number of cave systems dotted the freshwater ocean's bottom, and he wondered silently to himself if any of those would be open for him.

For a moment Kalipso was convinced that the other kelpie wasn't going to follow her down and would just stay on the shore; perhaps she'd been to abrupt or he didn't trust her. Her thoughts were put to rest when she saw the now mud-less, white and --still red-burned-- kelpie underwater. No wonder he'd turned such an angry red color, white could be a liability out in the summer sun.
She swam over to the stallion and nodded politely to him. "Glad to see you decided to come down. My name is Lady Kalipso Borealis, I am the ruler of this land. What is your name?"
Formal and polite was how she kept her light, singsong voice. She gave a pause for him to answer before continuing on by nodding to the underwater caves. "If you plan on sticking around then you can have your pick of any of those caves. They're for the herd members." She hoped she wasn't overwhelming what had so far seemed like a quiet stallion, that would be a bad thing.
