APHISSA
OOC: Got a little rambly, sorry! The stuff after the ... is probably all that's ACTUALLY relevant to making a reply, lol.
The summer sun was hot and vicious, and Aphissa-- still not entirely recovered from the natural drain of her pregnancy-- felt it heavily. There were droughts in many areas, and Aphissa found herself straying into owned territory more then she typically liked, Kraken in tow. The foal seemed to be bearing it decently-- he was unsound of health anyway, and time was not doing much for the scraggly legs he balanced on, but his survival prospects seemed solid now... a good change.
The trick was keeping him that way.
Even before he'd been born, Aphissa had found her mind straying towards that handsome stranger she'd met at the Rift.. Detox, his name had been, the king of a land under Morguin. She had considered following him home-- for how long, she couldn't say-- but her.. condition and the fact that the monarch of his lands was her son's father had given her pause. What if Morguin made the connection and took Kraken from her? The fear had only increased when he was born and, despite herself, she felt very attached to the sickly, stick-legged foal. Thus, she'd dismissed her thoughts of Detox as idle fancies and focused on survival, entertaining them only when she had a moment to spare.
The way the summer was going meant that beggars couldn't be choosers, and as the heat beat down on her back and she glanced with worry at Kraken's panting form, she found the thoughts occurring with more frequency. What had he said about his land? Constant night? The night was always so much cooler and that would be welcome right now..
But she managed to stave off the thoughts until one evening, Kraken nestled up close beside her and asked plaintively, "Mum, isn't there anywhere where we can rest?" The boy was oddly perceptive- he was noticing her quiet distress and wanted it easier for her.
"There may be a place." she sighed, nuzzling him. "The kingdom of.. a friend of mine. We'll go tomorrow." They set off at morning's light.
...
When they arrived, Aphissa found herself both nervous and surprised. Stallions didn't always take kindly to having the young of others in their lands, and she was worried-- though he didn't resemble his father-- that Morguin's blood would be recognized and Detox would report them to the monarch. What Morguin would do, Aphissa had no idea; barring the night they had spent together (in which he actually hadn't been so bad), she had only the rumors of his reputation to go by.
They would flee, she told herself, if it came to that, and she would defend Kraken until he could get to safety; but hopefully it would not come to that. Certainly, when she had met him last, Detox had seemed a charming and reasonable stallion.
She was further surprised because the land of Lauo was nothing like she'd been expecting. She'd known to think of the constant night and darkness, of course, and had thought it a place of pitch darkness, where nobody could see. On the contrary, it was lit from within: the foliage glowed, and she was forced to admit that the effect was quite beautiful.
Kraken seemed thrilled. He bounced around like a rabbit, between glowing toadstools. "This place is so cool!" he exclaimed cheerfully, "Why didn't we come here before?"
Aphissa sighed with a hint of a smile on her face, and shook her head. Instead of answering him, she cautioned "Don't stray too far." and continued glancing around, looking for the king of this herdland. "Detox!" she called, once the lit lands behind them had passed from sight. "Are you willing to entertain some company?" She stopped to wait for him on this inner edge of his territory, while Kraken continued to bounce around the scenery like a rogue electron. [/blockquote]

'CAUSE YOU'RE GONNA NEED ONE TO GET RID OF ME BABY
Memories are glorious things. They dance behind your eyelids 24/7 and can overcome your mind at any moment. They present themselves in the disguised form of dreams or can appear as a déjà vu moment. As Detox stood underneath a blue glowing toadstool, a familiar scent invaded his nostrils and entered his dreams. He mumbled under his breath and shifted his weight slightly to rest his other hind leg. The markings along his back appeared to shift to the unknowing eye but merely remained the same to one who had known the grey stallion for a while.
The mare and stallion stood on a cliff, a gentle breeze blowing their manes high off of proud necks. The sunset glowed brilliantly in front of the pair and for some reason, Detox who was usually completely blind in daylight, could see perfectly, his vision crystal clear. His glowing blue eyes watched with growing apprehension as the purple mare took a step backward, away from him as she shook her head, rejecting him, and over the cliff. A tormented whinny escaped Detox's throat as he watched the mare fall, fall, fall....
Detox awoke with a start, the tormented whinny fading softly from his mouth as he became aware of his surroundings. His blue eyes glanced around, the whites showing as he searched for the mare who had just tumbled over the cliff in his dreams. His nostrils trembled as the familiar scent wafted enticingly to him from his own lands. The scent that had haunted him for a while. But surely, she could not be here? She had declined his offer of a home by his side and he was sure that she did not know the way to his lands...
Trusting his nose, Detox carefully followed the faint scent of his memories further away from the centre of his land. The stallion stepped lightly between huge toadstools, comfortable and confident in his own home. His glowing cyan eyes scanned the area in front of him while his ears perked forward, straining to catch any sound that may accompany the elusive scent that he was so afraid to lose.
Detox! Are you willing to entertain some company?
The voice that had haunted him for a while now reached his sensitive ears and he let out a soft whinny, picking up his pace to a steady trot as he neared the boundary of his lands where the toadstools grew farther apart and glowed a lesser array of colours - only a few hues of blue and greens.
His blue eyes soon alighted upon the frame of Aphissa and he grinned a lopsided smile, although somewhat more reserved from his old carefree attitude with her.
Well well, if it isn't the beautiful Aphissa. I would love to entertain company, as always, especially with one as stunning as you. With half-lidded eyes, Detox bowed low to the ground, much like he had when they first met. Raising up to his full height, he flicked a thick blue-tinged forelock out of his glowing eyes before studying the purple mare's frame carefully.
What brings you to my lands, my darling?

Aphissa
There were a few silent seconds where she wasn't entirely sure her call would be answered, and then the unmistakably familiar whinny that she did recognize: Detox had heard her, and was approaching them. Excellent. She couldn't repress the hint of nerves she felt; they hadn't exactly parted on the best of terms, for all their short acquaintance had been quite pleasant.
From a short distance in the strangely-colored foliage, Kraken called, "Is that your friend, mum?"
Aphissa answered "Yes," before she saw a familiar gray form with blue markings materialize in the strange blue light of the place, and she trotted over to close the distance.
"You have lost none of your charm." she responded warmly, amused at his greeting. "You know me; my wanderings take me all places." She paused for effect, and then admitted, "But you spoke so highly of this place that I couldn't help but come see it for myself. I admit, when you said 'land of night', I was expecting somewhere much darker and less pleasant." Clearly, the interior decorator behind the glowing mushrooms had much to be commended for.
That was about as much interaction as she got before Kraken's curiosity brought him away from the strange plants he'd been investigating, and towards the form of his mother and this strange stallion. His expression was uncertain, a little wary, but he came up to stand behind his mother and peek his head around her side, all four ears pointed curiously toward Detox and his little draconic tail lashing. "Hello." he said, in that tone that children sometimes took when they were meeting one of mom's friends.
Aphissa hadn't intended to keep the presence of her son a secret, of course, but she'd been hoping to get a bit more flirting in before she had to introduce him. "Ah. This is my son, Kraken."
She didn't let it show in her face, which was in it's normal expression of feminine confidence, but the nervousness she'd felt at his approach was once more present: they had so much potential, but Kraken's presence was a complication. A complication she adored-- even Aphissa had maternal instinct-- but a complication nonetheless.

'CAUSE YOU'RE GONNA NEED ONE TO GET RID OF ME BABY
Nostrils flared as he caught the scent of another nearby. Detox's ears flickered forward as he caught the tails of a conversation between Aphissa and the other being but was a little to late to hear the first. A loud, trembling snort blew heavily out of his nose and his tail flicked from side to side.
Detox's attention was taken away from the other in his lands by Aphissa approaching him and he looked down upon the purple mare with a mixture of admiration and wariness.
You have lost none of your charm. You know me; my wanderings take me all places.
The grey stallion smiled crookedly down at her, his blue eyes studying her frame for any maladies or sickness whilst his ears pointed towards the direction from where he heard the other voice.
I am glad that I have not lost my charm since we parted ways, for I doubt you would be here had you not been first intrigued by my manners. And yes, I do know that they tend to take you far and wide as I once did, but it is agreeable for me to live in a home that reflects myself so much. His eyes crinkled at the corners as he grinned at her again, mischievous and shy all at once.
But you spoke so highly of this place that I couldn't help but come see it for myself. I admit, when you said 'land of night', I was expecting somewhere much darker and less pleasant.
A soft amused snort cleared the nostrils for the tall brute as he let his eyes wander upwards to the large greeny-blue toadstool they stood under. Yes, that was his first reaction. When one heard night they immediately associated it with darkness, but was night really dark? When we look up the sky, does one not see an endless blanket of light? And when the moon is at her glorious peak, did she not light up her beautiful world with a silver so coveted by petty beings? Detox blinked a few times, clearing his head of his wayward thoughts before lowering his head and reaching out his muzzle towards the smaller fae.
Unfortunately many do not believe that night and darkness sometimes do not go hand in hand. I am glad that you see the beauty in my land however. Are you well, dear Aphissa, my lovely? I have mares among me now and a foal of my own, but I often find my thoughts falling back to you and our meeting.
Detox's bold speech was punctuated with the visit of a smaller being, a foal in fact. He could see the resemblance in physical frame to Aphissa and immediately Detox knew that she had birthed this youngling. He watched the foal with an open curiosity as he peeked around Aphissa with his odd four ears and a solid, lizard-like tail. A small, cautious smile was offered to the colt from Detox as his eyes flicked quickly to Aphissa, a question in his eyes as he asked permission to smell the foal and try and ascertain the heritage of the green youngling.
Ah. This is my son, Kraken.
Hello, little one. You are quite handsome and strong, are you not? Your mother must be proud, Detox flicked his eyes back to Aphissa again, curiosity burning in his cyan blue gaze as he regarded her maternal confidence and pride.
Do not worry yourself, lovely Aphissa. You seem concerned. About what? He is strong and handsome and will make a fine young stallion. Who be his father? He let his eyes slide over to the young colt, Kraken, and regarded him with kindness. Could this be the reason why she rejected him? Detox quickly shooed the thoughts from the forefront of his mind and tucked it safely away.
OOC: o.o never heard of it/seen it xD I do love this land though <3
