Aberine
Class: Mammalia
Order: Artiodactyla
Suborder: Ruminantia
Infraorder: Pecora
Family: Cervidae
The Aberine [or Aberinthe, as they are sometimes known] are a common family of Cervidae, found all about Dayrya. They are well known for their doleful and beautiful appearance. Surprisingly almost all of the family appear in the same way, with a blue coat and large black [or sometimes blue] eyes, striking spiral horns, and characteristically large, cloven hooves. They are quite timid, and hardly ever befriend other species, aside from rabbits, with whom they seem to have a special affiliation, and some species with whom they share their feeding grounds.
Arik
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Subfamily: Pantherinae
Genus: Panthera
These large felines are well known for their ability to communicate with the other inhabitants of the island. Unfortunately majority of these majestic cats are sarcastic and want nothing to do with the world around them. These massive cats stand at about a 17 hands horses mid-shoulder. The sport neon colors such as purple, green, pink, blue, and pretty much any color in the spectrum. The have black leopard spots etched around some on their body as well. Both the males and females of this species pride themselves on a full mane that stretched from their chin, around their neck. and down to their elbows. Due to their rude nature merchants tend to stay away from these cats unless they are desperate for Marcs. Very few of these felines are ever held in stock so be wary when searching for one, because some may not be tamed. They have a lifespan of approx. 15 - 30 years, as some are more determined to live than others!
Butterfly Dragon
Class: Reptilia
Order: Omnivora
Family: Agamidae
Subfamily: Draco
Genus: Draconius Minimus
The butterfly dragon is a wee thing, though a lot bigger than its gossamer namesake, but it does, in fact, drink nectar! A few subspecies of the butterfly dragon do eat small insects, but they are otherwise almost all herbivores of a sort! They come in varying colours and sizes, although all beneath 45 centimetres tall and 130 centimetres long. They are usually quite friendly and docile and have a lifespan of up to 3 summers, but have been known to live up to five or even longer. They generally lay 2 - 3 eggs at a time, and usually only mate once in their lifetime.
Dreaming Weasel
Class: Mammalia
Order: Abnivora [does not eat]
Family: Mustelidae
Subfamily: Mustelinae
Genus: Mustela
These animals are extremely rare! They are even thought to be myth, by some, as they are quite hard to find, and almost impossible to catch. They stand at about 45 - 50 centimetres tall, and are about 150 cm from tip to tail. I was lucky enough to have caught one to take these measurements and record the habits of this delightful and mysterious creature. They are still a mystery to me in many ways, however. They use high pitched sonic noise to create images, like bats, and use magicks to sustain themselves, instead of food, it would seem. They come in many colours and mutations. The one that I had the fortune to study was a pure white male specimen, with pink eyes, and round, red crystalline growths on its forehead, which glowed. The Dreaming Weasel was so named for its image casting abilities, by the king Hedora, of Velvedore, who claimed that the red stone on his crown had been a given to him by one such a creature. As his mental health declined, the people began to believe that the creature must surely have been a figment of his ill mind.
Greater Eared Rabbit
Class: Mammalia
Order: Lagomorpha
Family: Leporidae
[b}Genera:[/b] magnupinnae
The Greater Eared Rabbit is named for the enormous pinnae that adorn the sides of its cranium. They grow up to 30 cm in length and trail at the rabbits sides! The Larger Eared Rabbit is usually a merle of brown, fawn, and black, it can, however, be any colour at all, as with almost any species you will find in the system, as we are all glitches, although some glitches are recurring, hence the poorly maintained genetic code in some lines of ancestry! The greater eared rabbit usually grows to the height of 30 cms and is quite timid and shy. They are herbivores, and can be found almost anywhere, as they are prolific breeders. The Greater Eared Rabbit is crepuscular.
Labrose
Class: Mammalia
Order: Omnivore
Family: Canidae
Subfamily: Caninae
Genus: Canis
The Labrose is a large canid, reaching up to 14hh in recorded cases. Their appearance is hellish, but their personalities are generally docile, friendly, and playful. They have silky fur, normally of darker shades, and crimson eyes with electric blue tongues. Their saliva is acidic, and will melt through most metals. Their spine, and the surrounding skin and flesh is fiery hot, when they need it to be [in cold weather and such.] They are commonly kept as pets, as they keep homes warm, and are always a positive presence with their beaming, acidicly drooling faces.
Lesser Eared Rabbit
Class: Mammalia
Order: Lagomorpha
Family: Leporidae
Genera: Brevipinnae
The Lesser Eared rabbit is commonly mistaken for an infant Greater Eared Rabbit, but in fact is an entirely different species! It grows up to a miniscule 10 cms tall, and has ears about 5 cms long. It also is a very, very timid species, and is also crepuscular, but its breeding rates are not quite so high as its bigger companion. The Lesser Eared Rabbits are becoming a rare species, even though they are swift of foot, because they took a blow when a disease exclusive to their Genera wiped out half the breeding population. Since then the generations have declined by half, and will continue to do so, until the last is gone.
Molen
Class: Mammalia
Order: Soricomorpha
Family: Talpidae
Molen are a hairless, pink species of underground mammal, closely associated with old earth moles. They have long, rodent teeth, long whiskers, pink noses with small feelers, and are almost completely blind. They use the feelers on their noses to indicate their way. They are commonly frowned upon as pets, as they are strange to look at, with their bald, wrinkly skin, but in truth, they are most fascinating creatures. They are omnivores, who eat grubs and worms, and have great colonies deep down in the soil and earth beneath us. They have caverns and halls, and are almost like us in the way that they are building intelligence and learning to speak their own language, albeit with few words, but still a form of communication! It is my opinion that we should befriend these animals, lest they become more powerful, and dig the ground out from beneath our high and mighty feet!
