Orpheus
This land was owned.
Orpheus could tell that. You could always tell, at least when you had been exiled once, when a land you were tramping through was neutral territory and when it was claimed by a local king. Going through claimed land always made him nervous: you never knew how a strange king would react to a stallion in their herdlands.
Still, sometimes such trespasses were unavoidable. The shortest distance between two points was a strait line, after all, and it was hard to find routes-- especially routes through neutral territory-- when you were in owned land.
Perhaps it was easier for the pegasi, since they could fly. Alas, Orpheus was ground-bound, and had to pick his way quickly and carefully through the territory.
Even with his nerves and eagerness to get through this land quickly, something distracted him and he got sidetracked (not altogether unusual, really.) This thing that attracted him was glorious—nobody in their right mind could just walk by it without having a good stare. A waterfall, throwing up a fine mist which caught the sunlit air and reflected it back as rainbows. Drawn in despite himself, he waded in past his hooves at the edges of the waterfall’s basin , mesmerized by gravity’s effect on fast-moving water.

His large beating wings brought him to a prompt landing in front of the other stallion. You are in Kingdom Lyth, I am Poltergeist the Monarch here. What can I help you with stallion? Teal eyes assessing the creature. This was the second horse to stare at the waterfall in awe. Perhaps it had some other power, other then its beauty. Like a goddamn magnet drawing fools into his grasp. Yes, that he could cope with. Giest was a tall stallion standing at 18 with a considerable draft bulk, he had no doubt that he could physically beat the crap out of the stallion if he were to challenge but perhaps in that knowing this new comer could be used. It would look good to have the support of other stallions; a show of power to his harem...

Orpheus
It was the wings that alerted him. He really hadn't been paying attention to either land or air (but if he had been watching for the rular, he would've expected him to come from the ground.) The sound of gigantic wings caught his attention, however, and he twisted his head upwards in time to see the other male coming to a land.
Orpheus, being large for his breed, was no tiny equine himself-- but the stranger was even larger, with a draft build against his twiggy little hotblood self, AND he had wings. Really big, large, heavy wings that added to his bulk. Add in the stark white of his coat and feathers, and this strange stallion made a very impressive first impression. Orpheus's second thought was that he did not want to get into a fight with this stranger.
His first thought was 'meep'.
His first words were neither of these things. "Greetings, Poltergeist- er, your lordship." Despite his best efforts, his voice probably projected that he was somewhat unnerved. Who could help it? The last time he'd been confronted by a Monarch had been his last herd, and he'd been accused of.. doing things to corpses. Accusations that were patently untrue, but it was so hard to convince a king of anything once they got an idea in their heads. Hopefully this king didn't have the idea that he needed a good whacking. "I have no business here-- I was simply passing through, as quickly as possible, and managed to get distracted by this wonderful waterfall..." He inclined his head very slightly towards the falling water, and for good measure, added "These lands that you rule over are quite beautiful."

He was feeling oddly charitable, the clear and undenighable Oddness of this stallions behaviour. He had never known a horse that was quite so much like a mouse. He would do well to hide and burrow. Eyes and ears where no others would tolerate. In the shadows he would flourish.
What if I told you there was more to this waterfall then what you see. It has a dark history you see. No one sees anything other then the beauty of its flowing water. Inside is a dark and inhospitable place for most... he let his voice trail to see the reaction of the stallion before he would give away any more secrets. Of course if this horse didn't turn out to be suitable for what he suspected, he would need to find a manner in which to silence him. Though if he started filling these secret places with horses to work for him their place of location would soon become known to many.
What if I told you with a pledge of loyalty I could garauntee you a patch of space in this glorious realm and your safety. You could have the privacy of your own business in your space so long as you could provide a useful service to the crown. This kingdom is new there is much to be earnt, a good place to start for someone who is unkown around here. his voice was as warm as he could manage in talking to a stallion.
Oh and just call me Poltergiest, there is no need for this lordship title. Me and you we are two stallions trying to get by in this cycle of crap that we call a planet. he snorted softly and watched the stallion carefully with teal eyes.
Orpheus Despite himself, Orpheus was actually decent at reading other horses, and that told him one thing quite clearly: the gentle tones of Poltergeist's voice were laced with a stallion's aggression. The white draft seemed willing to extend him some sort of favor, but he was still walking across thin ice and likely would through his entire association with this stallion. He filed that knowledge away, and hoped that if he ever did have to leave this one's association, it would be alive.
But that wasn't the issue right now. Right now, Poltergeist was telling him about the waterfall. "More to the waterfall?" he repeated, glancing at it. He knew it wasn't entirely uncommon for waterfalls to be set in front of a cave, or at least some indent, but he had not thought so at first glance, "I would be surprised, yes." he answered, clearly curious but not willing to push the stallion into saying anything he didn't want to say. Besides, even if it was hiding a cave system, Orpheus thought that there might be more to Poltergeist's implication than that.
The promise of potential land intrigued him more-- and potential service. See, people did not often realize how useful it could be, to raise the dead. Small undead made great spies. You know, if their eyes hadn't rotted out.
At being told to address the white stallion as Poltergeist, Orpheus ducked his head and answered, "Thank you, L-Poltergeist." His last leader had insisted on the formalities, and it was hard to resist the temptation to even add the word 'sir.' "I would be honored to take this pledge." Not that he probably had much choice, but truly, the idea of the land fascinated him. "I have a skill that you might find useful, actually."
His voice couldn't help but betray a bit of uncertainty at that; how people met his ability to raise the dead was about as mixed as how people took his association with corpses. They always thought he had the wrong intentions.

the white stallion listened carefully to his new comrade. behind the waterfall is a connection of caves, that lead deep into the earth where there are many unmarked graves of horses and creatures alike. the thick waterfall infront always keeps the smell from permeating and bothering those with a fragile nose. What is your power? I am a Holy caster, but with all powers it can be used for good or for not so good. I can harm or I can heal. so what is your trick? teal eyes rested on him thoughtfully.
The fact that he new Orpheus would never be a true threat to his position allowed him to relax a little. Perhaps it would be nice having someone around that didn't run on an entirely foreign set of hormones. Before waiting for the stallion to answer he stepped into the waterfall feeling the crushing power of its beating strength on his back before stepping threw the icy cold. Perhaps now Orpheus would see the cave himself.
Its pretty damp and smelly in here but I imagine you could make it a little more homely with some light.. All that you can see behind this waterfall unto the very earth is yours to rein and to do in your privacy whatever pleases you. All I ask is that you keep an eye on the happenings around these lands, and perhaps keep a scout out around the waterfall, it seems to draw the most attention!
Orpheus Orpheus couldn't help the smile on his face, to learn his guess had been right about the cavern behind the waterfall, and better then he could imagine: a graveyard. Well, wasn't that perfect! And Poltergeist was a caster, so perhaps he would understand.
Never passing up the chance to be theatrical, Orpheus threw up his head and pranced slightly to the side in the water, where he had earlier spied a dead fish. "I will show you." he said, and lowered his head to the rotting corpse-- they always rotted faster in water-- and blew on it. The fish flopped to life, and swam away, with Orpheus watching it. He allowed it to frolic in the water for a little while, before breaking the connection; it floated back to the top, dead as a doornail. "I raise the dead. A graveyard is perfect."
With Poltergeist blocking the waterfall, he could see past the stallion's bulk into the hints of a cave, and he walked deeper into the basin, focused on trying to see into the gloomy darkness. "I could do that quite easily." he answered thoughtfully, and then added, the slightly theatrical tones returning- "And I would be glad to!"
He didn't have to feign anything in that, either. A place to stay, in an idyllic landscape? A secluded cave, full of dead to experiment with? Somewhere he could live, more or less alone, and keep to his studies? How could he NOT be into that.
